Herb guides & how-tos

Questions, answered

Not sure which herb is right for you? Book a one-on-one consult with our clinical herbalist for guidance that fits you.

How are your herbs sold?

Herbs are sold by the ounce. Choose your size when you add to cart; most herbs come in 1, 2, and 4 oz options.

Are your herbs organic?

All of our herbs are organic or ethically wildcrafted.

What’s the difference between cut & sifted, whole, and powdered herbs?

Cut & sifted herbs are chopped into small pieces and are the best all-around choice for teas. Whole herbs and roots can be simmered or used for tinctures and infusions. Powders mix easily into smoothies, foods, and capsules.

How much should I use, and how do I prepare it?

A good starting point is 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried leaf or flower per 8 oz cup of hot water, steeped covered for 10 to 15 minutes. Roots, barks, and seeds are usually simmered for 15 to 20 minutes. See the buying basics above.

How should I store dried herbs?

Keep them in a sealed jar away from heat, light, and moisture. Most dried herbs stay at their best potentcy for about a year.

Are herbs safe during pregnancy or nursing, or with medications?

Herbs are natural but they are not safe for everyone. Please check with your health care provider, midwife, or other qualified provider before starting any new herb, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medication.
