Frequently Asked Questions About Our Lactation Supplements

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Lactation Supplements

A Few Things to Know Up Front

  • Organic Ingredients: Our lactation blends are made with high-quality organic herbs. We use Moringa leaf, never the root, which can be toxic.

  • Capsule Quality: Our capsules are vegan-certified, made from plant cellulose, and free from GMOs, dairy, soy, gluten, and nuts. They’re also kosher.

Starting With a Bundle

If this is your first time trying our supplements and you purchased a bundle (two or more products), we recommend starting with one blend at a time for 7–10 days.
This helps you:

  • Identify which blend is most effective

  • Avoid confusion if a side effect occurs

It doesn’t matter which blend you start with—just start slow and be consistent.

Pumping vs. Nursing

There’s no “best” supplement for pumping or nursing. Galactagogues in our blends are formulated to support overall milk supply, enhance let-down, and may improve hindmilk content.

⚠️ Important: Supplements cannot replace frequent nursing or pumping. Milk supply is driven by demand. ⚠️

Using Tea With Capsules

Yes, you can take capsules with our Milky Mama Tea. For best results:

  • Drink daily, at least 5 times per week

  • Steep for 1 hour or more for a stronger infusion

  • Prepare by the quart for ease

  • Consume within 72 hours for optimal freshness and refrigerate after steeping

  • Enjoy hot or iced

Combining Blends

Once you’ve tried each blend individually, you may combine or alternate them. Some customers find this approach more effective. Here are examples:

  • Option A: Blend A in the morning, Blend B in the afternoon, both in the evening

  • Option B: Blend A + Blend B together 2–4 capsules per dose, 3x per day

  • Option C: Alternate days (Blend A on Monday, Blend B on Tuesday, etc.)

What’s the Difference Between Blends?

Each blend has a unique herbal formula—like different cookie recipes with overlapping ingredients but different ratios. Even similar blends won’t act the same in your body.

Taking Supplements on an Empty Stomach

For better absorption, it’s ideal to take supplements on an empty stomach.
However, if this causes discomfort, feel free to take them with food or a drink.

Switching From Another Brand

If switching from another supplement:

  • Don’t stop abruptly (especially with chronic low supply)

  • Instead, start one of our blends and gradually wean off the other brand over 3 days

Some customers do transition cold turkey without issues, but easing in is safest.

Weaning Off Supplements

Want to stop taking supplements but maintain supply?
Decrease your dose gradually over 3–5 days to see the minimum needed for you.
Many customers successfully wean after weeks or months of use.

When to Expect Results

Results vary:

  • Some see a change in 24 hours, most notice a difference within 7 days

  • For some, it may take up to 10 days if there chronic supply issues.

If nursing, watch for signs like:

  • Increased wet diapers and weight gain

  • Fuller breasts

  • Faster/longer let-down

  • Baby seeming more satisfied

  • Hindmilk increase (creamier milk)

Suggested Dosage

General Recommendation:
Start with 2 capsules, 3x per day (morning, afternoon, evening).

For babies under 3 months:
Start with 1 capsule, 3x per day for 3 days. If baby tolerates it, gradually increase.

If no results after 3–4 days:
Increase to 3 capsules, 3x per day.

Capsule Size

Our capsules are standard size “00.” If swallowing is difficult, you can open the capsule and mix the powder into a smoothie, drink, or food.

Short-Term vs. Long-Term Use

Short-term use:

  • During growth spurts

  • Illness recovery (e.g., cold, mastitis)

  • Hormonal dips (e.g., menstrual cycle)

  • Times of stress

  • Returning to work/school

Long-term use:

  • Relactation or induced lactation

  • IGT (insufficient glandular tissue)

  • Hormonal issues (PCOS, thyroid)

  • Insulin resistance-related low supply

Possible Side Effects

Side effects are rare but can include:

  • Upset stomach (take with food if needed)

  • Nausea or increased bowel movements

  • Headache (often caused by dehydration - drink more water)

  • Rash or hives (stop use and contact us if this occurs)

Sometimes baby may show gassiness or fussiness if your supply increases too quickly, causing overactive letdown. Learn more [here →].

Safety & Medications

Herbal doesn’t always mean harmless. If you're taking medications or managing health conditions, check with your healthcare provider before starting.

Pregnancy Warning

Our lactation blends are NOT safe during pregnancy.
Instead, try our Womb Wellness Tea, which is safe for both prenatal and postnatal use.

Effectiveness & Guarantee

Each body is unique. While all our blends are designed to increase milk supply, one may work better for you than another.

Supplements can support your journey - but they aren’t a replacement for professional lactation support.
We strongly encourage reaching out to a certified lactation consultant if you're struggling with supply or need assistance with breastfeeding.
