What do I need to brew loose leaf tea?
You need a way to keep the leaves out of your cup. A tea steeper, paper tea filters or a French press all work well. We offer all of those tea accessories.
Can I steep my tea more than once?
Yes. Herbal leaves can be steeped again, adding about a 3-5 minutes each time. Black, green and white teas add about 30 seconds per re-steep.
How much tea should I use per cup?
A good starting point is about 1 teaspoon of loose tea for every 8 oz of water. If you like it stronger, add a little more tea rather than steeping longer. For a dense tea, use 1 teaspoon. For a "fluffy" tea that is more voluminous, we recommend 1 tablespoon.
What water temperature and steep time should I use?
Herbal, rooibos and black teas do best with water near boiling (about 212°F at sea level).
Green and white teas prefer cooler water, around 180°F. Steep herbal and rooibos teas for about 5 to 10 minutes, black tea for about 3 minutes, and green or white tea for about 2 minutes.
Are these teas safe during pregnancy or nursing, or with medications?
Herbs are powerful. Please check with your doctor, midwife or other qualified provider before starting any new herbal tea, especially if you are pregnant, nursing or taking medication.
